Chiltern Recorder Consort Series

'Be strong and of good courage' was written for the coronation of James I on 25 July 1603. After Deuteronomy 31: 6 & Joshua 1: 6; the text is that used, in the Latin as Confortare et esto vir, at medieval coronations.

Thomas Tomkins (1572 – 9 June 1656) was a Welsh-born composer of the late Tudor period and early Stuart period. In addition to being one of the prominent members of the English Madrigal School, he was a skilled composer of keyboard and consort music, and the last member of the English virginalist school.

Alex Ayre was a British recorder teacher and performer who arranged over 500 pieces, of mainly English Renaissance and Baroque music, for recorder ensembles.
