Thomas Tallis (c. 1505 – 23 November 1585; also Tallys or Talles) was an English composer of High Renaissance music. His compositions are primarily vocal, and he occupies a primary place in anthologies of English choral music. Tallis is considered one of England's greatest composers, and is honoured for his original voice in English musicianship.

"Miserere nostri, Domine" is a deeply evocative and poignant composition by the renowned English composer Thomas Tallis. Written in the sixteenth century during the tumultuous reign of Queen Mary I, this song carries profound religious undertones and reflects the spiritual struggles of the time. The text itself, which translates to "Have mercy on us, O Lord," conveys a plea for divine forgiveness and compassion. This phrase, derived from Psalm 51 in the Bible, is often associated with expressions of repentance and the acknowledgment of human fallibility. Tallis expertly adapts these powerful words into a musical composition that amplifies their emotional impact.

Alex Ayre was a British recorder teacher and performer who arranged over 500 pieces, of mainly English Renaissance and Baroque music, for recorder ensembles.
