The Glogau Song Book which dates from about 1480 is a judiciously compiled collection of 294 pieces pf varying character. It was originally owned, and perhaps even started, by the cathedral of Glogau. A variety of different genres and forms reflect in a remarkable way the character of secular music in the German towns of the 15th century. 

The pieces are mostly in three parts, and the few four-part pieces in this collection appear here in a version for recorder quartet. The gentle sound of this kind of ensemble is particularly appropriate for the rhythmically subtle and well defined interplay of the voices in these predominantly polyphonic settings. The range of the individual parts is also suitable for Renaissance recorders. 

This arrangement is based on the edition of the State Institute for German Music Research 'Das Erbe deutscher Musik' (German musical heritage) section middle ages, vol 4 and 8, Kassel 1954.
