Johann Sebastian Bach (31 March [OS:  21 March] 1685 – 28 July 1750) was a German composer and musician of the late Baroque period. He is known for his prolific output across a variety of instruments and forms, including the orchestral Brandenburg Concertos; solo instrumental works such as the cello suites and sonatas and partitas for solo violin amongst others. Since the 19th-century Bach revival, he has been widely regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music.

J.S. Bach's six organ trio sonatas (BWV 525-530) were composed for his eldest son, the gifted but problematic Wilhelm Friedmann Bach. They are masterpieces of harmonically enriched counterpoint, and often give the illusion ore than three parts are present, because of the harmonic and motivic density of the writing. The style is a fascinating mixture of Bach's well established counterpoint with more rococo and charming elements.
