The composer Susan Margaret Francis was born in 1948 and says she was'passionate about music from a very early age & was fortunate to study at Darlington College of the Arts in the mid 60s with the wonderful John Wellingham as my recroder teacher'.
'I was brought up to enjoy the out of doors and we often went boating in the canoes our father had made. This love of the rivers and canals has stayed with me and we have now swapped the canoes for our beloved narrow boat in which we have had many adventures, some of which are described in this little suite'.
