Chiltern Recorder Consort Series

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741) was an Italian composer, virtuoso violinist and impresario of Baroque music. Along with Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, Vivaldi ranks amongst the greatest Baroque composers and his influence during his lifetime was widespread across Europe, giving origin to many imitators and admirers. He pioneered many developments in orchestration, violin technique and programmatic music. He consolidated the emerging concerto form into a widely accepted and followed idiom.

Domine Fili unigenite is found in Vivaldi's GLORIA, his most famous choral work. GLORIA is set for eight choruses, arias for a soprano and alto and a duet for two sopranos. It also includes instrumental parts for oboe, trumpet, strings and continuo. The very energetic seventh movement of the work is set to the words Domine Fili unigenite, Jesu Christe (Lord, only begotten Son, Jesus Christ).

Alex Ayre was a British recorder teacher and performer who arranged over 500 pieces, of mainly English Renaissance and Baroque music, for recorder ensembles.
