Howard Skempton was born in Chester in 1947 and has worked as a composer, accordionist and music publisher. Feste's Song was given its first performance on 20th October 2004 by Lesley-Jane Rogers (soprano), John Turner (recorder) and Craig Ogden (guitar) at Downing College, Cambridge in a recital to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of Wilfrid Mellers to whom the work is dedicated.
