Haiku is a Japanese poem composed of three lines. For centuries the construction of a Haiku has remained the same. A single moment is captured in seventeen syllables which are set to the pattern 5 + 7 + 5. The meditations that were composed in August 1997 each have one of the four season haiku as a motto. The seasons dealt with here are however the European seasons and not the five seasons they have in Japan where the New Year is considered a season in itself.

The compositions are based upon the German translation by Jan Ulenbrook.
