This piece was composed at the request of Tokyo Recorder Quartet (Shigeharu Yamaoka, Takaasu Shobata, Fumio Kitamika and Takaharu Matsushima. public performance was given in July 1976 in Tokyo. 

Ryōhei Hirose (廣瀬 量平Hirose Ryōhei, born on July 17, 1930 in Hokkaido, Japan – November 24, 2008 in Kyoto was a Japanese composer. He has composed for both Japanese and Western instruments, but is best known for his compositions for shakuhachi and recorder.  He has also composed for viola da gamba.
