Lance Eccles - Night Sky - Treble - Tenor - Bass - OMP298
Night Sky is a short and colourful suite for treble, tenor and bass and is of moderate difficulty. The warm harmonies are conventional and good tuning is essential throughout. The three movements are a minuettish Moonrise, a rather Purcellian Southern Cross and an optimistic sounding Daybreak, but I am not entirely sure how the titles relate to the pieces! Understandably there are no dynamic markings, but perhaps rather than just bald metronome marks, a few descriptive tempo and mood indications would assist the performers.
According to Orpheus's website the composer has had a distinguished career as an authority on rare languages as well as being an enthusiastic recorder player; it would be good if his publications included a little biographical information.
