Composer Martin Ellerby was born in 1957 and studied composition with Joseph Horovitz at the Royal College of Music in London. for many years he was Head of Composition and Contemporary Music at the London College of Music and Media. In September 2005 he was made the second civilian composer in residence to the Regimentl band of Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards.
