Beginning in Osaka Japan over 60 years ago, Takeyama have now become one of the most sought-after recorder makers anywhere in the world. They employ the extremely fine woodworking skills for which Japan is famous and combine that with a unique gift for matching the voicing of the recorder to the characteristics of the wood being used.

This is arguably one of the finest descant recorders available today. It has been handmade from stained European boxwood, modelled after originals by Bressan. 

European Boxwood is historically one of the most sought-after recorder-making woods, now becoming increasingly rare. One of the attributes making it particularly suited to recorder making is that it is unusually hard in relation to its weight. It has a fine uniform texture and is able to achieve clarity and speed of response while maintaining warmth and expression.  This is an extremely flexible instrument, useful over the widest range of styles.

Takeyama tend to leave no excess wood anywhere on the recorder, consequently their recorders feel very fine and slender in the hands and weigh significantly less than recorders from most other makers. The finger-hole spacings also tend to be closer.
