Description

Beginning in Osaka Japan over 60 years ago, Takeyama have now become one of the most sought-after recorder makers anywhere in the world. They employ the extremely fine woodworking skills for which Japan is famous and combine that with a unique gift for matching the voicing of the recorder to the characteristics of the wood being used.

Tamana wood is a native of the Ogasawara Islands in Japan. It falls in the middle of the hardness range of recorder woods, producing a powerful and warm sound. Tamana wood's texture is open, similar to Rosewood, with an unusually deep lustre. A very flexible instrument, useful across a wide range of styles.

Takeyama tend to leave no excess wood anywhere on the recorder – consequently their recorders feel very fine and slender in the hands and weigh significantly less than recorders from most other makers. The finger-hole spacings also tend to be closer.
