Description

Beginning in Osaka Japan over 60 years ago, Takeyama have now become one of the most sought-after recorder makers anywhere in the world. They employ the extremely fine woodworking skills for which Japan is famous and combine that with a unique gift for matching the voicing of the recorder to the characteristics of the wood being used.

Rosewood is of medium weight with a medium texture and open pores. It is quite hard for its weight, which combined with the open pores creates a recorder with a lot of distinctive character in the sound. The sound is expressive, clear with a fast response. A very flexible instrument, useful over a wide range of styles.

Takeyama tend to leave no excess wood anywhere on the recorder – consequently their recorders feel very fine and slender in the hands and weigh significantly less than recorders from most other makers. The finger-hole spacings also tend to be closer.
