Preludes and Voluntaries:

The object of the class is to: - improve playing technique with discussions on fingers and breathing, etc; and - provide strategies that assist in interpreting and performing difficult pieces of music. Please do not feel that you need to be able to play every note of these Preludes. They will provide the starting point for discussions on articulation, phrasing, breath pressure and direction, trills, fingering, short-cuts, cheats and more. Our discussions and analysis will provide you with a better understanding of how to approach a new piece of music and practise the difficult sections. Bear in mind that the object of the Technique Class is not necessarily to perform music, but to learn how to play it.

Valentine: Sonata 11 in F major As I have indicated above, you do not have to be able to play these works perfectly. We will discuss how to incorporate learnings from the Preludes into performance of these duets.
