We will not necessarily play all the notes of all the set pieces. We will use parts of these works to identify and practice various techniques as required by the class. We do not expect you to have mastered all the notes by the course.

Markus Zahnhausen: Herbstmusik (Jahreszeichen – Möseler Verlag)

1. Morgennebel

We all play alto recorder and the same solo line. We will work on the dynamic borderland of the alto recorder and experiment with possible preparations of the windway. For this purpose, feel free to also bring a plastic alto recorder.

2. Blätter im Wind

We all play alto recorder and the same solo line. We will focus on slurs, high notes and different ways of articulation as well as tempo.

4. Winters-Ahnung

We all play alto recorder and the same solo line. We will experiment with extended techniques like the flutter tongue and the knocking sound.

1. Intrada

Both groups play alto recorder:

Flauto 1: CB, JJ, JS, KS, TW, KW

Flauto 2: KD, JH, BL, KK, KL, DM

2. Lilliputsche Chaconne

In these short movements we will work on virtuosic recorder playing, focusing on articulation, high notes, jumps, scales and slurs.

Both groups play alto recorder:

Flauto 1: KD, JH, BL, KK, KL, DM

Flauto 2: CB, JJ, JS, KS, TW, KW

5. Loure der gesitteten Houyhnhnms & Furie der unartigen Yahoos

Loure: Flauto 1 (alto recorder): CB, JJ, JS, KS, TW, KW

Furie: Flauto 2 (sopranino recorder): KD, JH, BL, KK, KL, DM
